John had the best day and night yet since he was admitted to the hospital! His ICPs are below 20 and stable, and hopefully will stay that way. The doctors may reduce the sedation and check his level of consciousness later today.
I'd also like to take a minute to recognize the amazing efforts of the doctors and nurses and Fletcher Allen. We have all been blown away by how caring and attentive the nurses have been, taking the time to explain things to us, and keeping a close eye on John's stats and doing everything they can to make him comfortable. We also feel very lucky to have such a highly qualified team of doctors with 4-5 neurosurgeons plus another 15 or so from other specialties.

That is WONDERFUL news. And it's sunny out! Two reasons to be thankful today. (If you're from out of state, you need to understand that sunny days in VT are few and far between.)
For those in VT, a Ridin High sidewalk sale is being planned, in front of Dobra Tea. Stay tuned for details...

Thanks for updating this it lets us know how John is doing. We have been logging on every day. Our hearts are with you and the family. But I know your brother well enough to know he is a surivor and with his friends and family behind him he will recover
big john-
we need to sing a round of the "Big John Song" Anyone remember it? It's an oldie, but goody.
Bounce back, buddy.
Thanks so much for keeping us all updated. I'm defenitly hoping for the best and any forward progression is much better than doing nothing or getting worse. I'm Erik O, the one with the house that Van and Lauren are staying in. I rode with Big John after every big snowstorm at Jay Peak for the last 4 winters or so. He's a friend to so many and we are all concerned for him. People who are out of state can donate money through PayPal. All of this money goes straight to the John Van Hazinga Fund at merchants bank for his family. Please get well soon John.
