Weaning

John continues to be stable, with last night particularly quiet and steady. The doctors have decided to start weaning John off the pentabarbitol (the sedative he's currently on). They say the process will take 2-3 weeks as they slowly reduce the drug a few ccs at a time.

I just finished weaning my little boy Leo with a not too dissimilar process and time frame. I'm happy to say he adapted well, with the great side benefit that he's now a bit more interested in cuddling. Let's hope for a similar positive outcome for John.

Being a part of this community, it is impossible to not know john on some level. From his time at the game cart teaching my boys on the balance board, to walking into his shop and buying my son his first longboard. His love for the sport and and desire to pass on his experiences emminates from him in such an infectious manner. The kids don't want to leave the mesmerizing energy that surrounds John, they ate up every last word. He not only sold them a board but inspired a true love of the sport in them. He just talked to them(many of these boys with only a mom to raise them), taught them how to care for the boards, handed them tools and let them do it.
Thank you John for taking the moment to pull my young teenager aside and explain the importance of saftey equipment(any mother knows how necessary it is for any message to come from anyone but her!!)
This space you are providing for our community is truly a beautiful thing. The love that is outpoured is overwhelming. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
from one mother to another, i shed tears of love, hope and strength for you. I feel an ache in my heart knowing that i can not imagine yours. The positive energy i have is directed up the hill to you and your family during this struggle. Peace, love and hope.
